TAVAT

Italian artistry meets thoughtful design – ethical eyewear for the intentional wearer.

Having a wide variety of collections in the shop is essential – and TAVAT brings a masterclass in refined, responsible design. Just what we like.

Each pair of TAVAT frames is handcrafted in small batches in Northern Italy, using a blend of traditional techniques and modern innovation. You can feel it in the details, A patented Ex‑Cam “watch‑crown” hinge: mechanically precise, impeccably engineered, and satisfying to open and close. These aren’t mass-produced or fast fashion – we don’t ‘do’ that. This is ethical eyewear made with purpose, precision and care.

At EYES on St Albans, we’re very selective about what makes it into our collection. TAVAT had to pass Jez’s famously high standards — and it did, effortlessly. These frames earn their place with thoughtful design, expert craftsmanship and long-term wearability – and the fact they’re not stocked anywhere else locally.

The TAVAT story began in California, but it’s the Italian makers who bring it to life with a slower, more deliberate approach that results in frames that are built to last. The colour palette is understated but distinctive currently with vintage bronze, dusty olive, deep graphite and warm neutrals. There’s flair, but it’s never flashy – in their words, it’s eyewear for creators.

You’ll find some firm fans of TAVAT locally – including our very own panto legend Bob Golding (that’s him looking fabulous in the photo, you may have only seen him in a dress), who’s a fan of the inventive SoupCan collection. It’s the kind of frame that gets noticed for all the right reasons.

TAVAT brings a different energy to our shelves. Not as vibrant as Kirk & Kirk, not as vintage as MOSCOT; but quietly confident, ethically made, and designed with intention. Jez will help you explore the collection and find something that genuinely is the best thing ever sitting on your face, and on your conscience.
