EYES on Varifocal Sunglasses

July 10, 2019

Varifocal sunglasses? Really?

Yes indeed! As we hope summer continues and for many, holiday time approaches, we thought we’d continue on our theme of sunglasses and look at the options available for people who need glasses for both long and short sightedness.

For many people the need for varifocals comes in their 40’s. Technology means that the prescription can be carefully graduated for each wearer and that obvious line that we used to see on bifocals is no longer there.

Turning varifocal lenses into sunglasses is a really straightforward process. It just means that we order the tint of your choice and the protective coatings to be added when your lenses are created. Tints are available in a variety of shades and we can advise you when you’re in the shop as to the best ones to suit your needs, style and the frames.

We tend to recommend a frame slightly larger than your usual to give you more coverage and protection from the glare of the sun. With varifocal sunglasses you can read by the pool (we live in hope….) and then look up to enjoy the view with everything in focus.

They’re also brilliant for driving, working outside or any situation where you rely on your usual varifocals or would swap between pairs.

What frames suit varifocal sunglasses?

We can turn any of the frames we have in the shop into sunglasses. As we said, we recommend those that offer you more coverage to give you more protection.

Our friends at Moscot have put together a whole page of their summer look – we have all those frames in store now.

The vibrancy of the Kirk & Kirk acryllic frames look amazing with tinted lenses and they’ve also got their own range of sunglasses this year too.

As with any glasses that we have here in the shop, the most important factor is what suits you and your personality. Come in, take your time and let us help you find the perfect pair – varifocals or not!
