EYES on Clean Glasses

October 31, 2023

What do you clean your glasses with?

Go on – own up!

The edge of your jumper?

Kitchen roll?

Spit?

Kitchen cleaner? (I mean, it does for the surfaces and they’re shiny…)

And for the kicker… how often do you clean them?

Multiple times a day?

Every morning?

When they need it?

What – I’m meant to clean them???

Are they Squeaky Clean?

Even before Jez opened EYES on St Albans, he had secured his own formulation of glasses cleaner that had been named Squeaky Clean.  The grand plan was to have the pharmacist’s dispensing bottle that’s mounted on the wall near the window with an ‘optic’ so you could refill your own bottle each time you needed to.

Best laid plans and all that.  Could we get that optic measure to work??  No.

Did we discover that using a funnel to refill the bottles was a much better (if far less cool) way?  Yes.

The best glasses cleaner ever

As soon as our first customers started using Squeaky Clean the feedback was amazing.

“The best glasses cleaner ever!”

“My glasses are so clean and it smells lovely!”

All our customers get free refills of Squeaky Clean for as long as they need it.  This means we can reuse the bottles multiple times and once the spray mechanism reaches the end of its functional life, we can either just replace that or start again.

The EYES formula doesn’t damage any of the coatings that we put on our lenses, helps reduce the static that attracts dust to the plastic and just requires a quick spray (we’d advise onto the cloth rather than the lenses themselves) and wipe to lift grime, grease, dust and anything else that’s on there off.   Pop your glasses back on and you’ll see the difference!

What about the ‘warm soapy water and a microfibre cloth’ advice?

It works.  And it’s a good way to clean your glasses – which can harbour all sorts of nasties if you don’t clean them regularly (you don’t want to know what we’ve found down the side of nosepads).

The thing is, you often don’t realise that your glasses need cleaning when you’re close to the sink!  Driving is a common one and also when you’ve been out and about and haven’t realised the dirt that’s built up during the day.

We created Squeaky Clean to be easy to travel with – we know many of our customers keep a bottle and cloth in the car, and in their work bag, and on their desk…

Our new packaging

Because you can wash and reuse your Squeaky Clean cleaning cloths, many of you will still have our circular cloths – matching the EYES logo perfectly.

As we’ve said before though, we’re trying to make small changes to become more sustainable in what we do.  So now, our cloths are square (less waste) and come in fully recyclable cardboard packaging rather than bags.

There’s no difference in how they work – we’re just sending less to landfill in the production process.

Can I try some?

Of course!  Just pop into the shop – it’s always complimentary.
